Figures of speech, which is also known as rhetorical or literary device, is used in English for enhancing speeches and daily conversation and making it descriptive. There are many figures of speech which help the child to write creative stories and poems, making it vivid and symbolic. 

Simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, hyperbole, idioms, onomatopoeia and many more. In this article we are going to learn about personification, its meaning with examples and the usage.

Personification

Personification is a figure of speech, where we give human qualities to the non-human objects as animals, things, and natural forces. This is done to make their description more vivid and relatable. These qualities can be anything like actions, emotions, desires to create an engaging atmosphere. 

Examples of personification 

Here are some examples:

1. The wind whispered through the trees.

2. The flowers danced in the breeze.

3. Time flies when you’re having fun.

4. The moon smiled down at us.

5. Opportunity knocked at my door.

6. The stars winked in the night sky.

7. The alarm clock screamed at me this morning.

8. Justice is blind.

9. The sun peeked through the clouds.

10. My phone died in the middle of the call.

Usage of Personification

1. Literature and poetry - This figure of speech is used by writers to display strong emotions and imagery in their writeups.

Example - “The stars are winking at us.”

2. Daily usage - People often say “the sun is smiling” or “time runs fast” to indicate lots of things.

3. Advertisement - Lots of brands use personification to make their product relatable to the audience.

Example - “Coco-cola brings happiness”

4. Storytelling - Writers use personification to enhance their writing and portray the beauty of tales
