10 lessons for school children from the Bhagavad Gita

10 lessons for school children from the Bhagavad Gita

10 takes from the message given by Lord Krishna to Arjun as given in the Bhagavad Gita, which the children can apply in their lives.

1. Dharma (Right Action)

One must concentrate on action instead of hesitating/worrying about results.

What is the take from it in one's life: If a child notices oppression, one must voice against it and bring it to the notice of the Authorities of the School/family/ society, as one’s dharma/responsibility to the society.

Practical Application: Concentrate on the approach towards the achievement of the objective before acting and avoid being anxious about the results.

2. Detachment (Letting Go)

Krishna explains to Arjun not to be attached to the outcomes – for action is in one's hands, but the results are not.

What is the take from it in one's life:  If a child studies hard but doesn't win a prize, they should try again rather than feel sad by attaching themselves to the result.

Practical Application: Focus on effort to achieve the objective, not results.

Let NOT the fruit of the action be the driving / motivating guiding factor, and not the procrastination.

3. Self-Improvement

The Gita Story: Arjuna listens to Krishna and understands the significance of action over attachment to the results, which are not in one's hands.

What is the take from it in one's life: While in sport or in studies or in life, one must not be taken aback by the failures, rather learn from the mistakes and overcome them through continued efforts to achieve the desired objective/goal.

Practical Application: Reflecting on mistakes, learning from the same and overcoming them to avoid them.

4. Composure (Calm in Success/Failure)

Learning from the Gita Story: Krishna explains to Arjuna to remain composed in happiness as well as in grief.

What is the take from it in real life: Accepting the ups and downs, successes and failures in a game or in one's life with composure and with an open mind so as not to be drowned by them in any way.

Practical Application: Remind oneself that if things go wrong, or if success is achieved, it will not remain so forever and thus stay calm and continue with efforts in life to achieve better results.

Perform once duty, treating success with humility and failure as a stepping stone for success.

5. Compassion

What is the take from it in real life: Encouraging and helping classmates and friends who are sad or are needy, sharing food and articles with those who are helpless.

What is the take from it in real life: Not to give up before failures but to try again, be it sports, an exam or challenges in life.

8. Honesty & Integrity
