5 Basic Truths of Bhagwad Gita

5 Basic Truths of Bhagwad Gita

Gita teaches us not only spiritual lessons but also practical lessons to be applied in our day to day life. Being kind is always in fashion, basic human qualities are becoming rare, what we have seen our grandparents doing, our parents following it and further our parents teaching us the age old wisdom but the new Genz and Gen alpha are tricky, it is very difficult to inculcate moral values to this new tech generation. Introduction to gita at an early age can not only help them with their smooth transition in childhood but it is like that one old friend which is going to stay with them life long. It truly shapes a person’s personality, their mindset, their perspectives which makes them a better human being.

If we see the bigger picture, we should be someone who not only contributes to a better home but a better society. Setting an example is so importantfor people around us to follow, especially children.

We are going to highlight 5 basic truths of Bhagwad Gita which can help us in our life at all times.

It is important to keep these Gita lessons in our mind while behaving and engaging with others

1. Treat everyone equally, with love and kindness : This is always a number one golden rule that great people are always very humble and down to earth. They treat everyone with the same respect, love and kindness not judging them on their status, position, wealth or job. There should never be a superiority complex that we are above others or better than others. Be kind to a janitor the same way you would talk to your school principal because at the end of day we all have our souls created by the almighty. Everything which has life has God in it, whether it is a tree, an insect, an animal or a human being.Treating animals kindly, feeding the stray animals, giving them shelter. We see some people pelting stones on the stray dogs which is so inhuman and unkind. Learn to recognise the divine in everything, see the creations of God as God himself.

2. Always be giving without expecting anything back in return : Whenever we help a person or do a favour never do it with an intention to get back something in return, it is not an equation which needs to be balanced, we shouldn't be the one keeping an account of give and take. Be selfless in your actions, never help someone like a business deal or transaction or a barter. This is something which brings true joy and happiness. It makes us a great leader thinking about everyone first. This also includes charity work, carrying out your duties and responsibilities nicely at home and work. The real reward is not a trophy or a prize but a selfless action done with a pure heart bringing joy to the world. It is a kind offering to God, a gift to nature.

3. Make your mind your best friend: Your mind is very powerful, beyond what we can fathom. If we truly put it to good use we can see the benefits of it in no time. The mind has the power to motivate us, to make us see things positively, to boost our spirit and be like a friend which supports us through thick and thin in good and bad. Gita teaches us to befriend your mind, dont let your mind tell you otherwise in any situation. It is something which can build you into a strong person

4. Be More disciplined: We are always told that in order to be successful, focused and hard working we need to be disciplined, but how can we be more disciplined? The answer is by controlling our senses, by not giving up to temptations and not surrendering to our senses, Our 5 senses are something which try to control us and give us signals which might distract or mislead us for a temporary moment but real power lies in controlling them, that is how we become more disciplined. If we are studying and there is a ring on the door or someone passes by we are immediately distracted and tend to lose our focus, to make our attention span stronger we need to remain unaffected and continue with the same flow regardless what is happening in the background, this is just one small example how to control your senses. There are numerous stories in Gita which help us with this lesson. Once we learn to control our senses, controlling our mind and making it our friend also becomes easier

5. A balance of everything: We should have a dedicated time for everything. We are always told at home and school to make a time table and follow it to the T. The time table tells us how to efficiently manage our day. In Bhagwad Gita, Krishna also teaches Arjun that Arjun you can’t be like “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” meaning of this idiom he can’t just be doing one same thing over and over again. He should eat well, sleep well, rest well, pray well and do something for leisure. That is why we are told to have a hobby which is so important for our overall growth and development of the mind. Now the trick is to balance all of this. A child can’t be playing the entire day or be expected to study the entire day. A well balanced day with all activities leads to wisdom and success.

If we start to apply these 5 truths of Gita, we can see a significant difference in our quality of life as this would affect our decision making skills, choices, patterns, behaviours and responses. The earlier we introduce them to a child the better but make sure to also be their role model. For them to adapt these qualities, as parents we should be following the same at home.
