Communication is a key to success. In order to communicate and express what we feel we need to learn parts of speech.
There are 8 parts of speech. They are - noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, prepositions, conjunctions and interjections.
Today we will learn about Adjectives.
Adjectives are the describing words which tells us more about nouns (people, places, things, or animals).
For example
a red dress
a beautiful girl
a huge building
the five men
In the English language there are more than 10 types of adjectives but for class 2 grammar, there are 5 types of adjectives that we will be discussing below
1. Adjectives of Quality - These are the adjectives which describe the characteristics of something like size, shape, colour etc.
For example
The water is cold
The cake tastes sweet
Ria is wearing a beautiful dress.
The castle is huge.
2. Adjectives of Quantity - These are the adjectives which tells us how much or how many, the quantity or the number of nouns basically.
For example
There are many pencils in the box.
Can you please give me a few toffees?
Sapna ate 4 cookies.
You are the second person to arrive at the party.
3. Demonstrative Adjectives - These are the adjectives which point out specific nouns of a particular person or a thing, their positions or time. The most common adjectives that are used are this, that, these or those.
For example
These fruits are fresh.
That car is red in colour.
I remember that day was Saturday.
Those boys won the cricket match yesterday.
4. Interrogative Adjectives - These are the adjectives which are used to ask questions like whose, what, why and which.
For example
What is your favourite fruit?
Whose bag is this?
Why were you absent yesterday?
Which dress do you like the most?
5. Possessive Adjective - These are the adjectives which show the ownership of a thing. The possessive adjectives show that you are the owner of the party and the party is in your possession.
For example
This is my pencil box.
Her exam results are out.
She likes her cat very much.
Rahul likes your house very much.
