A long division method is a method used for division of large numbers in a systematic stepwise procedure.
This process involves an easy way of solving the division problems when the number being divided is larger than the divisor.
Steps of Long Division
1. Divide
2. Multiply
3. Subtract
4. Take it down.
5. Repeat
6. Remainder
Divide — Find out how many times a number can divide the dividend.
Multiply — Multiply the divisor by 1 or number of times as per the question.
Subtract — Subtract the divisor from the dividend.
Take it down — Get the number down that is left after dividing the dividend.
Divide — Keep dividing till we get a one-digit number.
Multiply — Multiply the divisor by 1 or number of times as per the question.
Subtract — Subtract the divisor from the dividend.
Remainder — Quotient is the answer with either a remainder of 0 or a one-digit number.
Accurate Results — This method ensures accuracy in the results we obtain.
Large Numbers — This method helps in dividing large numbers in an easy manner.
Correlation — It helps us to understand the correlation between numbers.
Time — It saves time.
Easy and Feasible — As it involves repeat steps for division, it makes it easier for kids.

It can be a difficult concept for kids as it involves multiple steps; however, it can be more interesting once they learn the trick. Let me share a few interesting activities to help children understand the long division method.
Division Word Problems — Taking real-life examples and making the child understand, for example, a box of chocolates to be divided equally among 10 children and how many chocolates each child gets.
Flashcards — dividing the children into two teams and making flash cards for both teams with questions on one side and answers on another.
Division Quiz — Creating a fun quiz by making a statement like "I am a number; if you divide me by 2, you get 6..what am I?
Math can be fun and challenging at the same time when we connect it to real-life scenarios and apply it in real life to make it more interesting.
Math is a very important part of our lives and plays a vital role in day-to-day activities.
We use math in everyday life, such as managing money, shopping, calculating for cooking, buying vegetables, buying fruits, understanding a game, and many more.
Cooking — We can use the long division method; we need to calculate the quantities of every single ingredient to cook a particular recipe.
Money — In order to plan a shopping spree, we need to calculate the budget by the long division method. For example, using the money for clothes, groceries, vegetables, etc.
Classroom sitting arrangement — The long division method can be used to divide an equal number of students to be seated on benches.
Scoreboard — Long division can be used in any sport to divide the finals core with the number of overs, hence understanding the run rate.
Trip Planning — A school trip can be organised with the help of the long division method by dividing the number of students and buses for the trip; for example, each bus can accommodate 10 students out of 100.
