Have you ever come across certain words which are the same in sound but different in spelling,meaning and usage.For a fact, it's quite common even for the native speakers and might happen with most people at some point to be confused with certain words. Let us help you to identify and understand them better so they don’t confuse you in future. As kids, if we make them grasp the basic concept and the idea behind it, kids will be able to use it as an advantage over others. The more words we know , the more we can use in front of the kids and the more kids listen the more they learn a language. To use English as a language correctly we need to understand the words and their correct usage, pronunciation and spelling.
We can only use homophones in the correct manner when we know their right pronunciation and spelling.
Below is a list of some homophones and how kids can use them in sentences
1. Here - Put it down here.
hear- Speak louder, I can't hear you.
2. See - It's so dark, I can't see anything.
sea- Let's go swim in the sea!
3. Be - Will you be my friend?
bee - 'The bumble bee was on the flower.'
4. Male - Please write M if your gender is male.
Mail - Did you receive all the confidential information in your mail?
5. Pear - I tried a cake recipe using fresh pear.
Pair - Rohan and Sheena make a good pair.
Pair - I bought a new pair of socks from the supermarket.
6. Son - Garry has a son named Rahul.
Sun - I love to watch the sun rise in the morning.
7. Write - It is a good habit to write a gratitude journal.
Right - The team with the maximum number of right answers will win the quiz.
There can be more than two words that sound the same but spelled different
Here is an example “to,too and two”
1.To is used to show motion:
I’m going to the shop.
2.means ‘also’ or ‘extremely’:
I would like to come too but I'm too tired.
3.Two means the number 2:
Let’s buy two apples.
