Meerabai also known as Mirabai, is a well-known figure in India’s devotional poetry and a prominent personality in the Bhakti moment. She was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. Her devotion and love for Lord Krishna was so pure that it became an example for the coming generations. When Meera Bai was a kid, one day she asked her mom how her future husband would be. To her question, Meera Bai’s mother pointed her towards the idol of Lord Krishna and said that Lord Krishna is her true husband. This innocent conversation changed Meera Bai’s life and she became a true worshipper of the Lord Krishna.
Meera Bai was born around the year 1498 in Kudaki Rajasthan. She was born into a royal family and was married into a royal family. Even though she was married to Prince Bhoj Raj, her her devotion to Lord Krishna was so deep that most of her time she was engaged in worshipping, singing songs of Lord Krishna and writing poetry.
Meera Bai refused to accept Prince Bhoj Raj as her husband as she had since her childhood has accepted Lord Krishna as her true husband. Meera Bai was spiritually married to Lord Krishna. She was involved in her bhakti devotion to Lord Krishna so much that it started creating issues in her in-law's house. Meera Bai has faced many challenges in her life which she overcame with Lord Krishna’s blessings.
Meera Bai’s in-laws did not like her love and devotion for Lord Krishna. Envious of this, her in-laws tried to harm her many times. Once, they sent her a cup of poison which she drank after offering to Lord Krishna and nothing has happened to her. In another attempt, her in-laws sent her a basket hiding, a venomous snake in that. They told her that it was a garland for Lord Krishna. Meera Bai opened the basket happily and found a beautiful idol of Lord Krishna in it. This story shows that trust and faith in God can bring a miracle in life. Meera Bai always considered the devotion of Lord Krishna as a supreme goal in life. She faced conflicts with her In-laws or the society but even after encountering these odds she always trusted and had great faith in Lord Krishna. Meera Bai often used to dance in temples singing Krishna bhajans and songs. She had composed many bhajans dedicated to the Lord Krishna.
Meera Bai had her poetry. Meera Bai's composition was based on metrical verses and devotional songs. She wrote poetries in Rajasthani and Braj Bhasa ( language). Her poetries were easily accessible to common people and it was musically designed so that they could be sung. There are many popular poems written by Meera Bai.
1. “ Payoji Maine Ram Ratan Dhan Payo” - this poem shows the happiness of attaining the priceless name of god.
2. “ Mere to Giridhar Gopal Dusaro Na koi” - this poem expresses the love for Lord Krishna
3. “ Tum Jo Todo Piya”- this poem highlights the true love of Meera Bai for Lord Krishna in which she is saying that she will never break the tie with Lord Krishna.
4. “Pag Ghungroo Bandhe Meera Nachi Re” The poem shows Meera dancing while wearing the anklets.
5. “ Mira Ke Prabhu Giridhar Nagat” the poem confirms Meera’s Bai bond with Lord Krishna.

1. Deepest faith and trust in God. Meera Bai had met with many challenges created by her In-laws and society but she never lost faith and trust in Lord Krishna. It teaches us to have faith and trust in god in every phase of our lives.
2. Challenging the social rules. She renounced royal comfort and spent her life worshipping the Lord Krishna.
3. Searching Happiness in simplicity. Meera Bai used to get immense joy by singing songs for Lord Krishna and dancing to Lord Krishna’s songs. This proves that happiness lies in simple things in life.
4. Detachment from the materialistic world. Meera Bai’s stories help us to understand that inner peace will not come from external pleasures but from inner happiness by doing simple actions dedicated to spiritual knowledge.
5. Surrendering to God’s will. Meera Bai’s life stories tell us that no matter what human plans, it’s always God’s plan that works. The enemies of Meera Bai tried to harm her but Meera Bai surrendered herself to god and god had his plans to protect Meera Bai and save her from all challenges.
