What is Noun?

A noun is a name of person, place, animal or a thing. Noun is known as naming word.

Ram is a good boy.

She works in the office.

Neha is my friend.

Common Noun:

A common name is a general name for person, place, animal or a thing.

Examples

girl, city, ground, cat.

A common noun doesn’t usually begin with a capital letter unless it starts a sentence.

Proper Noun:

A proper noun is the special name of a person, place or a thing.

Examples

Nimrah, New York, Yamaha, Delhi Public School.

Collective Noun:

A collective noun is the name of a group of people, animals or things.

Examples

A swarm of bees.

An army of soldiers.

A herd of cows.

A bunch of bananas.

Material Noun

A material noun is the name of material or substance from which a thing is made.

Examples

gold, wood, nylon.
