Gayatri mantra (Mantra comes from a Sanskrit word meaning a sacred message or text, charm, spell, counsel. - (originally in Hinduism and Buddhism) a word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation.) is the oldest and the most powerful of all the Sanskrit Mantras. 

The mantra isn't just powerful because of the composition but also, the vibrations it creates in the form of positive energy and its meaning.

With the chanting of the Gayatri mantra and embedding this entirely within yourself, this mantra also assures that when you live your life, doing what is to be done, your life will be contented.

The term "Gayatri" itself describes the purpose of the mantra. The word is derived from the archaic phrase Gayantam Triyate iti. 

First, the chant of 'OM' fills the atmosphere with positive vibrations and energy. Chanting OM has numerous benefits and they are increased with the subsequent words. When translated, the Gayatri Mantra means, "Divine mother, please let your pure, spiritual and divine energy spread through all the realms present around me and light up all the beings present over here. Please remove any darkness from my nature and fill me with knowledge".

Origin of Gayatri Mantra

One of the holiest and most influential mantras in Hinduism is the Gayatri mantra. It is taken from Rigveda, one of the oldest known Hindu texts that has a profound impact on the mind, body and soul. The mantra is one of the oldest in Hinduism, dated to about 3,500 years ago, and it is dedicated to the Goddess Gayatri, the personification of the ultimate power which enlightens the intellect and gives wisdom. It centres on direction finding, divine light meditation, and keeping one’s mind clear.

Goddess Gayatri is also referred to as “Veda-Mata” or the Mother of the Vedas — Rig, Yajur, Saam, and Atharva. This is because this is the very thesis of the Vedas—the truth behind the realised and cognised universe. Goddess Gayatri is known to destroy darkness by imparting light in our minds.

“Oh, creator of the universe. We contemplate thy great splendour. “May thy brilliant being enlighten our intellects, destroy our ignorance and enlighten us as we continue to purify our inner hearts.”
