It’s never too soon to inculcate a love of physical activity in kids by introducing them to fun fitness activities and sports. Doctors say that participating in activities develops motor skills and muscles and reduces the risk of developing lifestyle diseases later. 

According to experts, children over 6 years old should exercise for at least an hour per day to improve their strength and endurance. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but in the age of video games and Netflix, more and more children are missing out. In the 21st century, both adults and children are prone to sedentary lifestyles.

1. Running

Running is one of the most common exercises for kids at home or anywhere. Running helps to develop healthy lungs and hearts and assists with kids' brain health development. 

Some examples:

3. Having races against other kids on School Sports day

2. Skipping

Another easy exercise for kids at home is skipping. Using a skipping rope is a fun exercise that is great for blood circulation, and helps to strengthen kids’ bones and their overall physical fitness and stamina. It can even help improve body posture and lead to physical growth in terms of height. 

3. Yoga

India is the land of Yoga and yoga is of the best exercises for kids at home is yoga. Not only does yoga help to improve physical fitness, it helps to improve balance, coordination, and promote mindfulness and deep breathing with in turn can reduce stress levels. Yoga is a great fun workout for kids. 

4. Dancing

Dancing is a fun aerobic exercise where they won’t realise they are working out, but having a dance out. Pop some music on in the lounge room and dance to their favorite beats.

Regular exercise for kids has numerous benefits. Daily exercise make kids healthier, more attentive, and less likely to be obese as they get older. Regular workouts also improve their fitness levels, endurance, flexibility, stronger bones and muscles. 

5. Stretches

Simple stretches are easy warm-up exercises that can prove to be effective exercises on their own to elongate the muscles in the body.

Steps to do:

  • You can make your kids sit on a yoga mat and stretch their arms and legs.
  • They can stretch their arms and legs fully to feel the stretch of the muscles in their arms, legs, backs, and sides of their bodies.
6. Cycling 

Get your kids a cycle and let them cycle down the streets of their neighborhood or around the block as a fun and engaging activity.

Cycling is also a great low-impact aerobic exercise that kids can do regularly. It's also a great way to make new friends when done at a group level.

Cycling can help your kids improve their fitness levels, boost mental health, and develop their balance, posture, and coordination. It also increases oxygen intake if done in greener areas!

7. Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a well-known and age-old outdoor game that entails jumping between squares, and serving a workout. Using chalk pieces, you create a numbered hopscotch grid on a cement surface or sidewalk. Make your young ones leap between the squares according to the numbers that are displayed to them. Kids have a lot of fun playing hopscotch, which also helps them become more balanced and coordinated. 

8. Make them Climb the Stairs 

Kids may get into a good, low-impact workout regimen with just a flight of steps at your house or apartment complex. It may sound ineffective but in the era of lifts and elevators, we need to use the harder route to stay fitter. You can get your children to climb and descend the stairs several times. To add a little extra difficulty to the exercise, kids can also climb the steps a little bit faster and descend them at a modest jog.
