This blog will give all the necessary guidance on how to help children build strong communication.

Importance Of Good Communication Skills

With better communication skills, children can easily express themselves well and clearly, build meaningful relationships with others, resolve conflicts, and successfully tackle difficult conversations. Having a strong ability to communicate makes kids feel more confident in social gatherings without stressing too much.

10 Communication Games And Activities
ROLE-PLAY:

Role-play is an excellent game for improving speaking skills. Pick a theme for kids to enact and discuss. For example, “going on a vacation trip”, the kids would have to act out their conversation as if they were planning in real.

This game encourages kids to enact various scenarios where they imitate different characters. This helps in verbal communication as well as elevates vocabulary.

CHARADES:

The “charades” game pushes kids to creative thinking, attention to detail, and gestures to convey messages. It’s a word-guessing game where one player acts out a word or phrase without speaking and others need to guess the action.

TABLE TOPICS:

Each player gets a chance to ask 20 questions about themselves or others in the group. Everyone takes turns and answers these questions. This game improves active listening skills, promotes teamwork and collaboration, and encourages cooperation.

SIMON SAYS:

This game is perfect for teaching younger kids to follow directions. The leader becomes Simon and gives commands by saying “Simon says” telling the kids to perform any physical action. For example, the leader orders “Simon says touch the wall” then everyone needs to touch the wall.

This is a super thrilling and great way to teach kids about paying attention.

CHINESE WHISPER:

This is one of the most loved games of all time. All players need to sit in a circle, one kid whispers a message into the next player’s ear. This player then whispers the same thing to the following person and so the chain continues till it reaches the last player. Now, the message is said aloud which always turns out to be extremely hilarious as It’s greatly different from the initial message. This game mainly focuses on listening skills.

GUESS THE OBJECT:

Place an object in a bag and give kids clues to help them guess it. For example, if it’s a spoon then you could tell the color and the purpose for which it’s used. After guiding how to play, let kids now choose and hide their objects. Encourage them to describe the object as much as they can. This way their ability of description improves with creativity. Also, it helps their critical thinking as well as gives them a chance to use different adjectives.

SHOW AND TELL:

It’s an amazing weekend game where the whole family could gather for “show and tell”. Each member chooses their desired item from the house. Players turn by turn show off their loved item and describe the details about it.

This game elevates the power of description and helps to improve speech delivery.

CHAIN-LINK STORY:

This is an exciting game of creativity and quick thinking.

Players sit in a circle with a ball and anyone can start the story by saying as little as “Once upon a time there was a monkey”. Then throw the ball to someone new and have them add to the story. Players will keep passing the ball and the story will keep on continuing until it reaches an end.

PICTURE TALK:

Kids can choose any picture they like and then they have to describe it. They tell everything they see in the picture and the theme of it. Narrative picture talk is an excellent exercise for speaking and paying attention.
